Welcome to Voices from Chernobyl

Should the Vermont legislature allow Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant to be relicensed and continue operating long past its planned lifespan?

This is the question that concerns many Vermonters. The possible consequences of nuclear energy are so horrendous most people avoid thinking about the issue. But through theater people can think of the unthinkable. Viewing a performance can draw people together and facilitate a public conversation about such complex and difficult issues. For this purpose the Lintilhac Foundation is supporting VOICES FROM CHERNOBYL--a readers’ theater project--to help citizens wrestle with these issues in communities around Vermont and beyond.

VOICES FROM CHERNOBYL is a play that weaves together stories told by survivors of the meltdown that occurred at the nuclear plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine on April 26, l986. Readers’ theater is not difficult to mount. Actors read from a script so they do not have to memorize lines. The play runs about 45 minutes so there is plenty of time for good discussion afterwards. The VOICES FROM CHERNOBYL project will arrange for an established cast to come to your town and stage a performance. The project will also help you stage your own readings with members of your community. See: Get Involved.
